Medical Cannabis

What is Medical Cannabis?

Cannabis formulations or Vijaya Leaf Extracts are precisely  formulated ayurvedic formulations with therapeutic benefits of a  combination of ancient herbs. All the medicines and formulations are  backed up by decades of scientific research and knowledge of Vedas.  All the medicines are third party tested and approved by the  Government of India. The extract is a mixture of many compounds called the  Cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. The Cannabinoids are  natural compounds found in the plant in the leaves and flowers of  the Cannabis plant and are called Phyto cannabinoids. CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the two of the  most studied and recognized chemical compounds found within the  vast profile of cannabinoids

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is present in every human  biological system. ECS is a cell signalling system comprised of  molecules that act as neurotransmitters (CB1 and CB2 receptors)  spread across the human body. This cell signalling system is  responsible for mood, inflammation, immunity, pain, stress, sleep  and appetite. Phyto-cannabinoids bind with CB1 and CB2 receptors  found within ECS. This interaction helps to simulate the cell signalling  system and aid regulation of the above-mentioned symptoms. CB1 receptors are found in the brain and central nervous system,  lungs, GIT, reproductive organs, vascular system, and muscles.  CB2 receptors are mainly in the peripheral organs, especially cells  associated with the immune system, skin, bone, and spleen while  TRPV1 receptors are found in blood, bone marrow, tongue, kidney, liver, stomach, and ovaries. The phyto-canabinoid CBD has no action on CB1 receptors and very  weak action on CB2 receptors. It causes FAAH inhibition (enzyme  that degrades THC/CBD) and naturally the body’s 2-AG and/AEA which (are the natural endocannabinoids present in the body) go  up (bliss creating molecule, feeling of goodness, well-being),  immune system gets regulated, and as well acts on serotonin  receptors and mood gets regulated. FAAH degrades AEA &2-AG. THC is partial CB1, CB2 receptors agonist while CBD is TRPV1  agonist. In presence of CBD, THC cannot exert psychoactive effects and any of its toxic effects.

 Mechanism of Cannabis in Cancer.

 1) B cells are immune cells with the highest levels of CB1&CB2  receptors.

2) Cannabinoids can decrease the production of antibodies.

3) In T cells, cannabinoids clearly regulate T cell proliferation as T cell  apoptosis is increased by AEA and CBD, AEA and THC decrease the  T cell proliferation.

4) Macrophages – TCH increases macrophage apoptosis.

5) Immunomodulation is mainly regulated by inhibiting immune cell  mobilization and increasing apoptosis; endocannabinoids  decrease neutrophils and macrophage mobilization to sites of  inflammation and dendritic cell migration.

 6) CBD can suppress many transcription factors, including NFAT,AP-1  and NF-kB and this accounts for wide spread suppression of many  cytokines.

7) THC inhibits interferon- gamma secretion which is also inhibited  by CBD.

 8) CBD decreases IL-2 production in T-cells and engagement of both  CB receptors reduces IL-2 synthesis.

9) THC &CBD decrease the production and release of IL-6.

10) CBD& THC also attenuate the expression of TNF-α-11.

 11) Both CB1 &CB2 receptors are expressed in immune cells,  including CD-4 and CD-8 leucocytes, B-cells, NK, monocytes, and  neutrophils.

 12) ∆9-THC supports the modulation of the Th1/Th2 balance by using  the control immune action of Th1 and increasing level of Th2.

Thus, primarily cannabinoids cause their immune-suppressive  features in Four pathways:

a) Apoptosis induction.

b) Cell proliferation inhibition

c) Cytokine inhibition.

d) Production and induction of chemokine associated with  regulatory T-cells.
